Yasser Nabaiel embodies human suffering in his latest exhibition

Man's suffering and internal conflicts with others still dominate his actions. Egyptian artist Yasser Nabaiel appears to us through his latest exhibition, “Guilty,” with a group of paintings through which he addresses the pain of modern man amid a life full of wars and conflict. The exhibition, hosted by Yassin Gallery, features Nabaiel using the Baconian style of painting to depict psychological torment and create layers of meaning to describe the human condition today. If Francis Bacon’s true science is that which is based on observation and experimentation and its goal is the practical benefit of people. Nabaiel presents us with paintings that are also based on observation, experimentation, preparing a painting of presence and absence, and deducing general laws. The mind, according to his philosophy derived from Bacon, must begin by purifying itself of illusions. Then a person can accept life with his mind free of previous thoughts, so he can interpret them and master them. He says to "Azwaaq": "I am preoccupied with the struggle of modern man; I consider it a kind of drama, which embodies the same truth for me. There is a degree of pain inside every human being, even in the most happy moments." What is striking is the artist’s celebration of women in his works. This comes based on his view of it as a symbol of pain in various societies and cultures. He says: “These are pains that deserve to be narrated in art and also dealt with their various dimensions.”

Yasser Nabaiel was born in December 1970 in Kafr El-Sheikh, Cairo,Egypt. Currently, he lives and works in Switzerland. He holds a BFA (1994) in Fine arts with high honors, and an MFA (1999) in oilpainting and drawing from the Fine Arts, Zamalek, Helwan University.
